For Any Holiday Gathering—-Sweet and Spicy Bacon

December 11, 2019 by Tonja Leave a Comment

This is mind-blowing bacon. MIND-BLOWING.  I initially thought of this as a great starter for a holiday brunch menu at a cooking class I’m conducting.  But, after taste-testing it for friends at a dinner party we hosted, I decided this would be delicious for any part of your holiday menu.  I even think these would be great holiday food gifts.  Here’s the kicker– a cookie sheet, a knife and fork, and bowl are all you need—and 20 minutes in the oven.  They are sweet and spicy—smoky and crispy. I can hardly wait to make these again. Serve in these cute little mason jars and enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb. bacon

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, 1 tsp if you like it really spicy

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cayenne

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp onion powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

In a medium bowl, pour all ingredients, except the bacon, together and mix well with a fork.

Next, cut bacon in half, and place slices on a foil lined cookie sheet.

Spread the sugar mixture over all the pieces of bacon, making sure to cover every spot.

Bake at 350F for 10 minutes. Remove bacon from the oven and flip bacon slices over. Return bacon to oven for an additional 10 minutes until crispy but not burnt. (You might need to bake for a few minutes longer).

Remove from oven and using tongs, transfer bacon to a new foil-lined baking sheet to cool.

Place in mason jars or on a platter to serve.
